Poems and Prose

The Ugly Beneath

Lurking
In cold murky pits
Consumed by the black of darkness
Forever hidden from light
Twisted, distorted, tortured
Ugly thoughts createΒ dead joyless soul
Lifeless and hollow
Violently Spitting hate and vitriol
Alone
In jealous rage.

Hope stands tall
In glory, the warmth of light
Together, armoured by laughter and love
Unmoved, untouched, unharmed
By the poison of venomous thought
Hearts filled with strength and joy
Protected by beautiful energy from good souls
Darkness shunned, trapped to rot
As we continue to live.

  1. I love the contrast here between the negative and the positive. The first verse you really do get a sense of that ‘spitting vitriol’, the negativity is almost tangible. And I really like the shift towards the end #Prose4T

  2. I agree with the above comment, I could really feel the negativity in the first verse and loved how the second one ended the complete opposite #prose4t

  3. I’m such a goth! I adored the first verse, and was hoping for some comeuppance… but positivity is fine, I should probably practice a bit of it!

  4. Oh wonderful…and a bit creepy…oh and warm too!! A great good/bad, heaven/hell twisted soul going on there. I’ve read it 4 times and it gets better and better. I love it when that happens, well done you!

  5. This is a fantastic poem of not succumbing to weakness and all that it brings. Your family is such a tower of strength and this poem puts it beautifully. Thank you for linking to Prose for Thought x
