Anticipation

Heart beats a little faster
A little harder
I can hear it in my ears
Feel it in my chest
It makes me catch my breath

Palms are sweaty
Fists clenched
I struggle to keep my hands still
Tap my fingers on the closet surface
Give them a little shake

Hair stands on end
Causing me to shiver
I rub my arms
Give a little smile
Hope no one notices my jitters

Breathing quickens
I close my eyes trying to relax
I struggle to find the words
My throat is dry
In anticipation

  1. Lovely poem and it makes me want to know, what’s next?? What were those words…??
It’s a lovely build up to the anticipation of the words she’s looking for!
I’d happily read more to find out…

  2. I’m with the other lady. What’s she trying to say? She smiles, so does that mean it’s good anticipation? Lovely poem which describes anticipation very well X #ThePrompt

    1. Thank you, I’d only ever thought of it as a stand alone, maybe she’ll work her way into something else & we’ll find out what she was waiting for xx
