Air Balloon

Mr C is hit or miss with presents. One Christmas he bought me a box of fortune cookies ’cause a couple of weeks before we’d had a Chinese take away and had received fortune cookies with it. I had flippantly said that I liked them. You know, liked them as in at the end of a Chinese meal as a little novelty, not a box full of them! What am I supposed to do with a box full of fortune cookies! I still remind him of this now when he says he has presents under control.

Other times and more often than not, he gets it really right.

For my birthday in 2007 he surprised me with a ride in a Hot Air Balloon. I was so excited, it was something I had always wanted to do and he had managed to keep it to himself until the actual day. We drove across the county border into North Yorkshire. My birthday is in June and although on paper it should be nice weather, we all know a sunny day isn’t guaranteed! Luckily for us it was a glorious summers evening. Watching the balloon inflate and the enormity of the set up was exciting in itself!

Once took off, high in the sky, it was still lovely and warm in the evening sunshine, we were able to just wear t-shirts! It was clear and cloud free and you could literally see for miles!

It was so beautiful to be looking down on the earth from a perspective I’d never experienced before. It was calming and tranquil. Serene. Although there was 12 people in the basket everyone was hushed and quiet, like we were in a library, not wanting anything to break the spell. The silence only breaking every so often by the sound of the burner keeping us afloat.

Breathtaking

We were in the air for what seemed like forever and when we landed we had a little glass of champagne to celebrate.

It was a perfect evening and one I’ll remember for ever!

Mr C did good!
