Family

In a vast universe of people. Strangers.

Orbiting.

Are those we’re related to by blood.

A mutual unconditional love.

Passed down, generation to generation.

Bonded together firmly by great memories.

Some love, some like, some can be relied on, some funny, some distant.

Some don’t seem to care.

In the vast universe of people. Faces.

Orbiting.

Are those we choose.

Friends we choose to love.

Those who choose love us back.

Invited into our atmosphere to share our lives.

To create and capture moments in time.

Peter Kay Aunties and Uncles who fill a black hole.

At the centre, shining bright.

A pair, a trio, now four.

A tiny quartet of unity and strength.

Of fun and understanding.

Of love.

Making new memories whilst remembering the old.

Forever linked by an invisible, unbreakable bond.

Moving in the same direction.

Most of the time.

  1. Absolutely love this, especially the way it looks at extended family, the family we choose and our own special family units. Beautiful x Thank you so much for sharing with #ThePrompt x

    1. Thank you Sara, I was struggling a bit with the prompt at first, I knew what I wanted to say but couldn’t work out how! Had a light bulb moment yesterday x

  2. Love this poem, especially the last verse and the line about your family growing – ‘a pair, a trio, now four’ is such a wonderful line which captures so much.
